XY was kind of a shitty, boring game, but you honestly do have to give GF credit for converting every single Pokemon into 3D within a single generation. In that regard it's a tolerable transitional piece, being just kinda eh but eh enough to be excusable while sadly having a lot of untapped potential.
ORAS meanwhile was a massive disappointment that utterly failed as a remake considering how it didn't properly implement elements of Emerald into it like HGSS did for Crystal.
Finally, though Kalos had a ton of potential and could have possibly been redeemed with a Pokemon Z (think how fundamentally better Platinum was to DPPt), they utterly shat the bed and just decided to cut their losses with Gen 6, moving on to Gen 7. However, since they didn't try to improve the generation, they didn't learn from any of their mistakes, and went on to make an even worse generation with 7.
