The real reason is because, outside of gen 1 glitches, a pokémon's weight is coded to be at most 999.9 kg
By making all Dyna/Gigantamax weights "the pokémon's weight+" and by coming up with some bullshit "it's all projections bro" they can explain why stadium-sized dinosaurs don't even weigh 1 ton without having to make all of them suddenly made of styrofoam like Wailord
