Anyone have any theory to why they didn't adapt Shield and Sword's story for the anime? It just seems really strange to me tk do this every reigon story. Do you think they thought it was a bad story?

Maybe waiting a bit longer because they also think the new game will be trash. I think we won't see a new Pokemon game for a couple more years after this to give GameFreak more time to make a good game. Only after that they will adapt Sword & Shield.

I think they just wanted to reboot everything for the new audience. It’s been a while since the first season and children probably don’t even know how Pikachu and Ash met for the first time.
Plus, they want some new original protag to promote in a way PokeGO and include it in the story without being too ridiculous and pushed.
So, with that kind of premise and protag who wants to catch them all, they’ll have to travel the world. And it can also gives the anime series some kind of continuity between each season (idk how they’ve planned to make them travel regions).

Waiting to adapt it makes no business sense. By then it'll be too late to advertise Gen 8.

There's plenty of things that could go wrong with a story like that. We've never heard where Pikachu came from aside from it being a Pokemon Oak had had in his possession for some time. Pikachu initially dislikes Ash, zapping him when he tries to get too close and fights his clumsy attempts at befriending and training. Pikachu continues to hate confined spaces like Poke Balls. An origin story for Pikachu could potentially explain why it is this way, but it also brings the potential to mess up these aspects of the character with badly executed drama and unnecessary information.

I think they just want to promote the entire brand with the anime moving forward. A show like Pocket Monsters can go forward and promote the new mobile games, the remakes, the mainline games, any plush or toy campaigns the centers are running. It can now just do whatever the hell they want. Promoting one game for three years can't compare to promoting the full brand. The new timeslots is a factor too. It's a more competitive timeslots and a more casual timeslot all at once. Sunday is the big kid show day in Japan, but it's also a family day. So doing a more approachable anime makes sense.

Before the whole Dex leak of SW/SH, I thought there was going to be a piss poor shortage of Galar Pokemon. So I thought they would just do an all region setup because of that.

But, knowing that there's a bunch of Galar Mons, this honestly doesn't seem like the case. Instead, the Anime is being used to most likely advertise Pokemon GO.

The timeslot changed to Sunday nights, when people are usually busy, and we're in the Reiwa era now; Sun & Moon was the last series of the Heisei era

So it's mainly because we're in a new era now
