Im playing through SS on the DS and im wanting to complete the dex without trading up from the other gens (mainly because Im not splashing out for platinum or HG and a DS). Is there a way of getting the starters through mystery gift on online trades still?

No it actually expands. The version 0.2.0 he plans on releasing includes all 807 apparently. This is the same guy that made the Nintendo Ds Map maker. Unfortunately, it's only in spanish.
