BOTW is praised because of how open and free it is. You can do almost anything in any order you want, provided that you have the skill for it, up to running right up to Ganon and slaying him in your undies.
One of my favorite Easter eggs involves Zora's domain. Normally, it's raining so hard, you can't climb the cliffs around it. The devs intended to have you meet up with Prince Sidon at the bottom the river path and make your way up the long, winding trail, littered with enemies. But, if you're persistent, clever, and/or bring advanced techniques with you, you can bypass Sidon entirely and forge your own path. And once you get there, you get a unique, VOICE ACTED, cutscene where Sidon has a completely different reaction to you, because you haven't met yet.
THAT'S open world gameplay, and that's what Gamefreak is denying us with this shallow imitation.
