In GSC? Geodude or the traded Machop and Onix (lol), which even have the added benefit of being easier to grind.

HGSS has the added benefit of being able to use Heracross that actually learns Fighting moves, so that gives you another, overall more practical option too.

Got it to Graveler, then realized that I needed to trade to get it to evolve.
Just said "fuck it" and kept it all the way until the elite 4.
Same with Machoke.

I must have had no problem with her because while I do remember rollout, I don't recall getting frustrated or losing.

Someone who likes the design? All four of the Kanto trade-evo mons have always been perfectly usable during their second stages for a general playthrough of the games. I often used Haunter and Kadabra in the first few generations despite knowing that they needed to be traded to evolve.

I remember having trouble with her on my first playthrough because she had Rollout and my team was composed of Growlithe, Pidgeotto, and Cyndaquil and because I refused to catch anything else or even just evolve that fucking Cyndaquil. My second playthrough with me using only a Togetic and Flaffy (both male) was so easy in comparison, it was a fucking joke. If you can't figure out how to use status moves to deal with this thing if you want to go in with a shit team, your lose is on you.

I forget that most people who played it here were probably still learning to read in school where as I was in my early teens. After having played Gen 1 for about two years or more I was more than prepared to take on anything in Gen 2 and did with ease.

I played the first two gens barely knowing how to read. I would would memorize what the moves in each of the four spots did so I didn't have to sound them out each turn. Downside I didn't know the purpose of stuff like sword dance or focus energy.

I don't blame you for that. I played through the greater portion of Gen 1 just focusing on attack moves. It wasn't until late in that Gen when my friend had the clever idea to keep barrier and recover on his Mewtwo, and wrecked my ass with it, that I realized the error of my simplistic thinking.

Now that I think back on it, I probably beat Whitney by having my Sandshrew use Sand Attack on it. Bellsprout might have used Sleep Powder too.

I had a strategy guide that was singing Geodude's praises due to the five billion new moves it got in Gen 2. Of course, the Johto pokemon all sucked so the guide didn't have to sell much.
