>have a friends group who want to do a monotype tournament for sword/shield
>level 50, 6v6, single item per, single mon per, must feature at least 1 new pokemon
>signed up for either Dark of Flying
>other types signed up for are Fairy, Bug, Ghost, Electric, Steel, and Water
I don't have a lot of experience with pokemon, can you guys help me out?

Right now I'm planning on Dark and having:
>Obstagoon, Grimmsnarl, Bisharp, Tyranitar, Mandibuzz and Weavile

Drapion will be a must to take on the fairy matchup, drop obstagoon for it. You will need to play your Bisharp and Drapion very carefully because they will be the crutch in this matchup. Ttar will be able to tank a moonblast aswell.

You are already decently prepped for the bug matchup with Grimmsnarl, Mandibuzz, and Bisharp, but Stealth Rock on Tyranitar will still help out a lot.

Ghost should be easy, watch out for Gengar focus blast.

Electric looks like it'll be a pain because Krookodile isn't in the dex. They will be able to volt switch freely and mess you up. Get up rocks and let choice band Weavile and Scarf Drapion go ham.

Steel could be trouble if they bring Lucario. Use bulky chopple berry Tyranitar with earthquake to kill something. You absolutely cannot let Lucario swords dance. The moment it's sent out attack with whatever Pokemon you have out. If it Swords Dances try to revenge with Mandibuzz foul play and sucker punches from the others if that's not enough. Put a fighting move on Weavile.

Water will be hard if they bring rain so you will need to repeatedly cuck their rain with Tyranitar.

So drop Obstagoon for Drapion.
Make it Scarf for speed control. As crazy as it sounds, use toxic spike on it as the fourth move.
Grimmsnarl should be bulk up, don't know what moves it learns though.
Make Bisharp Swords Dance with sucker punch, iron head, knock off. Maybe tech brick break on it for coverage instead of knock off.
Tyranitar should be bulky with chopple berry, Stealth Rock, and Earthquake.
Mandibuzz should be roost defog foul play. Invest in physdef.
Weavile should be Choice Band, ice shard, icicle crash, knock off, low kick.
Look up their sets on smogon for more ideas on moves and ev spreads.

You're right. I really wanted to fit in Obstagoon because he's a fully evolved dark from the new game, but I don't want my shit pushed in by the fairy matchup.

god awful taste, Drapion should be played Acupressure with Lum or ground lowering berry, no toxic spikes since you're using defog
Weavile should get LO because you want to be able to use your coverage instead of being stuck on ice moves

OP here, more info. We're doing doing a bracketed tournament. It's round robin to try and lessen the effects of someone getting knocked out because they got their shit pushed in by an extremely poor type matchup. That should be something planned about overall though since you should expect to face most of everyone even if it was a bracketed tournament.

Without scarf drapion the entire team is slower than base 80s besides Weavile.
Toxic spike will help a lot in the water and electric matchup but defog is mandatory for the steel matchup.
LO Weavile is fine but there's not as much need to switch up moves because it's monotype.

it's because it's monotype that you want to be able to switch up moves
the two turns it takes to set up toxic spikes only for them to be disposed of by the coming of a poison type that can be found in over 50% of the other monotypes amin the tourney
and Drapion don't have nowhere nearly enough attack to work decently with a scarf, he's way better at setting himself up with Acupressure
