The reason shit's the way it is is because Game Freak now realise they can put in the bare minimum (possibly even lower) and millions will still flock to Gamestop and buy it day 1 including you. Even without access to 3D software they would just make the same kinds of shitty maps we've been getting in Gens 6,7 and now but just 2D. Sinnoh and Hoenn or whatever regions weren't considered great just because they were 2D; they were great because they had thought put into them
