Because it's Galar uses Dynamaxing as it's main attraction.
The cards for Marnie and her brother mention that their hometown is pretty much abandoned/ignored since it doesn't have a Dynamax spot or whatever triggers it.

There was no point to it. They were just talking. There was no music. We weren't getting any ground breaking information we didn't already know. We already know the chairman wants Leon to help with obtaining Dynamaxing to help keep power and keep Galar on the map for years to come. It doesn't fit. It's just them going 2d because, "Well we did it in X/Y and Sun and Moon, why not here as well."

...No...? Screenshot of this otherwise? If anything the entire storyline evolves around how Dynamaxing in general is become more and more limited in this location, and then a few spots start cropping up allowing it, more less the history of the nation had been hidden and obscured.

...Honestly it's like a far worse retelling of FF14's Heavensward storybeats, but with POKEMON.

I think XY and SM get bad raps. They have their problems but honestly I had fun with both and I never felt like either game was giving me the middle finger. Even with their flaws they felt like games that had general effort put into them, and they're solid 3DS games.

At this point though I feel like Sword and Shield are just actively telling me to go fuck myself. It feels like Gamefreak didn't think a Switch game would sell so instead of putting the effort into it they just shit out something cheap.
