It's Masuda. Time and again he shows how stubborn and clueless he really is and he's pretty much sucked most of the soul from the mainline games. Ohmori is basically his lapdog at this point. There needs to a leadership overhaul at Gamefreak for anything to change. Even if the games sold below expectations Masuda would just blame mobile phones and his own failures.

The Pokémon Company for the marketing and merch release schedule that requires a new Pokémon game to coincide every year.

Whoever is responsible for hiring at Gamefreak because they need more staff, and more competent staff at that.

They're now cutting core features, cutting major corners to meet release deadlines now. This sounds like an absolute mess and I don't see the game's getting any better if this continues, just a rapid decline into shallow bullshit

They need more staff, yes, but what they really need do is slow down their release cadence. 9 women can't make a baby in a month, and you can't fix all the problems of the rushed shitshow that swoshit was by throwing more bodies at it

Feedback loop between people who will buy anything and GF, who is lazy and incompetent. I'm actually optimistic that free market capitalism could fix this particular issue. Eventually, at the rate GF is going, the decline in quality will be too difficult for even the most domesticated fans to ignore.

Lackadaisical attitude towards work and/or a complete disdain for working on Pokemon.
Unwillingness try anything different/risky despite having literal billions to fall back on.
Ridiculously low staff numbers for the work they have to do.
Terrible directors.
Yearly release schedule.
A company which prioritises merchendising over anything else.
Declining quality of Pokemon design.
A fanbase which buys the game regardless of the low quality caused by the above.

GameFreak is the worst "big developer"
Even fucking Bethesda tries harder.
