Problem with Trick Room is that it already puts you a turn behind just to set up.

If your setter goes out on the first turn and dies, your whole team is screwed.

If you send your setter at an opportune moment you're still on the back foot.

When you manage to get it out (Prankster is a big help) you have to monitor it for four turns because the initial turn still counts for some stupid reason.

What the game really needs, if they want people to use Trick Room and/or slow Pokémon, is a few Auto-Trick Room setters and/or an item that flips the Speed stat with another stat or otherwise swaps turn order. Maybe the item could be like "As long as the opposing Pokémon is not holding the same item, this Pokémon will always move first". That way, even fast teams will be encouraged to have at least one Pokémon hold the item to offset slower stronger mons from outpacing them.

Trick room is best on things that can use it themselves, like Magearna, Stakataka, Porygon2, Slowbro/Slowking, Reuniclus, etc. The strategy of setting up trick room and then switching to another Pokemon never works, because too many turns are lost and you have to absorb a hit on your way in. Trick room always was and still is viable for doubles/VGC, though.

Trick Room is only really useful in Doubles, because you're using two Pokémon.
