Model importer? What the fuck even is that? Importing from what to what? If you're going to have models that you intend to use a lot, you're going to save them in a universal format like .obj or .fbx, or whatever proprietary binary belongs to the modeling program they use (probably Maya). Those files, and ESPECIALLY those file extensions wouldn't change from one gen to the next. Compatability isn't a thing you worry about until it's time to compile the game, which is way, waaay down the list from asset creation.
Also, if they did want to make some big "Not all monsters this gen--oh look! All monsters again!" Reveal, ESPECIALLY if you KNOW you're going to be able to follow through on that, you don't say
