What exactly is missing? Do you actually care about musicals and contests or is this a meme? Besides Battle Frontier, Musicals and Contests, what is missing that made older games better? I can't tell if people are mad that Sw/Sh is looking just like any other Pokemon game or if they're more upset by GF's excuses despite the games most likely being as average as normal.

The big thing is the Pokémon on top of that it’s hundreds of small things where they cut corners. No overworld shinies, shiny locked starters, no legendary battle music, no Victory Road, no E4, over 100 cut moves, 20 hour story, no post game areas, no post game story, Battle Tower with cut content like Super formats and no original bosses, no GTS etc. wouldn’t be a big deal if it was just one of those things.

It feels like a cut down SM. Less content, worse characters, shorter/lazier routes, worse writing, glitches and issues like pop in, all the new features are lazy, less pokemon, and the graphics are basically the same. It feels like I'm being charged more for a beta version of SM.

Aside from what you've mentioned and all of the blatant and obvious cuts we've already discussed: We don't have any clear reason or gain in exchange for all the removed content.
They lied about animations, lied about models, lied about textures, lied about "gameplay features" when most of what they added was romhack-tier teambuilding shit they should have had at least two gens ago, lied about "game balance" when absolutely nothing needed to be CUT for balance when blacklists and whitelists already exist within Pokemon's code
What we're missing is the truth.

The only thing I'm sad about is no post game routes. Like, besides GS, they usually were just like 4 extras routes or something, but it gave a nice and cozy feeling exploring even further a region past what we thought was the end of the adventurer.

But besides that, I'm actually excited about the game. It's Pokémon after all, it still has that vine that makes me like the series.

On top of that, i just want a decently put together game (SwSh is definitely not that), one with enough to do. Maybe gens IV and V spoiled me, but there was so much to do and explore it felt like. Give me back a battle frontier, those were great fun. Add in more places to explore after the league. And for the love of god please just give Mythicals actual events rather than a delivery boy in the Pokemon Center.

I'll never understand the desire for post game cities/routes. I'm trying to find a point but that's one thing I disliked about Gen 5. I beat the Elite 4 so I always felt like there's no more point in keep playing the same game. A new route is fine but what is there to do in the new cities/routes? Bingo. People have been willing to overlook all the flaws of previous games because, at their core, it was still Pokemon, and you could still build how you wanted. The announcement of the cull was just the straw that broke the camel's back. Then they tried to spin it as a positive, saying things like

I guess for me there's that excitement factor. You beat the main challenge, became champion, and now there's an entirely additional section opened up to you to explore? It's like the encore really. You've already conquered the game, now you get the enjoy it as a champ with usually additional challenges or whatever.
In the end I just love the exploration aspect. I miss that, the games haven't felt like there has been a lot offered in that department in generations.

My issue is that masuda lied about the reasons behind his shit, cut corners are okay, but lying to me when these are the same models from the 3ds and the game feels cut down in terms of length from even SUMO it feels fucked. That and everything aesthetically about the game feels fucked, the sound effects are bad, the music is all over the place and alot of the uprezed sun and moon style just doesn't do it for me.

Yes. The only thing we could reliably expect to be carried forward between games was the Pokemon. All my stupid collectible gag builds from Gens 3 and 4, and even my modern competitive builds from 6 and 7 are 75% invalid for entry. This is not a good thing when there is quite literally nothing else to do in Gen8 except online battling and raids (which are prep for online battling)
Additionally, I like being able to restart one game repeatedly while sending in one or two Pokemon from the other version so I can play through with different, unique teams. By removing 500 pokemon, they have removed 500 reasons for me to replay the game and 500 reasons for me to buy both versions rather than one
So, from my perspective, there is absolutely no reason to buy or even play the game unless I go balls-deep on VGC. And if I do that, I have to start over from scratch as well.

None of the excuses for cut content are satisfactory explanations, and the provided new content is not a satisfactory exchange.

What makes it hard for me since because of B2/W2 I always held the opinion that GF just have a really shitty idea of what exploration is. It's why I like X/Y so much cause the route, while hallways, felt well built and fun to travel up and down, while B2/W2 made exploring feel like busy work and I just spent 5 minutes getting a thunderstone, which just always soured me about Gen 5 vs Gen 6's hallways. I'd just rather a tight experience then what feels like padding like the cities/routes that don't do/add anything to the overall experience.

List of things I care about that are missing:

Decently sized region that has interconnecting routes and freedom to pick your next direction and objective to some degree (present in RBY/GSC/DPPt especially)

Option to turn off Exp Share so I can keep my team lower leveled without needing to actively avoid battles (Present in XY-USUM)

Higher difficulty setting (Present in BW2)

Lack of postgame hurts too. Since I really appreciated all the shit you could do in games like BW2 or BW. But it's not what bothers me the most.

And I will never understand the desire to grind trainers in battle facilities like Battle Frontier. After initial 20 battles I get bored of the available formats and want to move on.

That's just it, with postgame exploration you haven't "beat" the game. Sure you beat the main story, but there's still things to do. It's hardly any different than any other RPG with sidequests, extra bosses, and secret locations to explore after the main story is done. Everyone's got their own way of enjoying these games. Just like everyone has a favorite Pokemon. It's why so many of the changes in SwSh have evoked such a response, it feels limiting in numerous ways. And for the first main console game, when everything ideally should be as it was, just better, it comes off with a sour taste.

Thanks, it's 4chan so I can handle the harshness, but I've always played Pokemon with the idea that the only goal is beating the Elite 4. This is what's always brought me joy, but in Gen 4, when they added a whole new area, I always asked why was this added? You beat the Elite 4, so you put the game down and play something else and when you return, new game. I know about competitive, but it wasn't till X/Y that I even knew people liked things like Battle Frontier. I'm replaying older games, I just beaten Heart Gold, Black 2, X and Ultra Moon and I've loved them all but that was playing from start to Elite 4 and nothing else. I still have my team from Black 2 in-game and haven't touched it since I beaten the Elite 4 a week ago, but I'm tempted to try and understand by exploring the new routes/cities, but I just don't know what to do. I know the PWT but that's all.

What I hate is how they culled the majority of the pokedex and replaced them with no more than 5% of them being good designs, sure i wouldn't gaf if it they got rid of trubbish, gardabor and other garbage designs.

That giant pokemon shit is a stupid gimmick and no post-game is bullshit

They have some well designed NPC's at least but it doesn't justify buying a half-assed game where they simply port the sprites from Gen 7 & 8 not even at least fixing how flying pokemon look.

Fuck this shit, i'm just gonna play romhacks for my Pokefix for the rest of my life.

I don't think there's anything strange about this, in fact it's probably the way the vast majority of people play Pokemon games. If you're not into the competitive side or don't care for the side features, then any kind of postgame is just an extra 2 hours of padding before you put the game down.

Was this confirmed somewhere? I'm already turned off by the incomplete dex but if they also gutted the Battle Tower a second time then I truly wonder if this entire game wasn't a deliberate sabotage by Masuda rather than pure incompetence.
