>>41070688This. The Gen 5 games were given so much hate early on. It was not on the 3ds, it forced you to only use mons from the gen for most of the first game, it's a circle, the show sucked, and so on.
Gen 5 games did have a great story for pokemon standards, one that challenged the entire concept the franchise was built upon. That alone made it special. As people nitpicked at the gen, it also made people look harder to see what they liked. People started to defend it, and that made the people who hated it mad.
Are the games perfect, no. The desert had odd placement, it had some odd mons, and such. But it did a lot of things right. It was one of most beautiful pixel art games on the 3ds, it had a ton of extra content that the newer games seem to lack, it did have some great mons too, and it had a lot going for it. To me, it feels like GF put more love and care into it than most of the other games.
It feels like a peak, because GF has really struggled to make the new games feel as content packed. And that always beings people back. I started with gen 2 in 2001, but I have played them all. Gen 5 is my fav.
