I'm playing it on set and it makes zero difference, mostly because trainers don't use more than 2 or 3 Pokemon. Their Pokemon are so underleveled too that they are literally lower level than the wild Pokemon in the same area, which makes zero fucking sense, do trainers "train" their Pokemon into LOWER levels?
This is by far the easiest Pokemon game ever made, retards kept hyping it up because you can get wiped on the wild area by level 30 Pokemon, but you only do that if you absolutely want to, it's the equivalent of killing yourself by jumping off the first hole in 1-1 and calling Super Mario Bros a hard game.

Honestly with the mandatory exp share it's the closest we'll ever get to challenging mechanics. Can't wait till they cut it out of the game next gen

the game isnt a challenge no matter what it's set on. its just more time wasted if you wanna swap out to a super effective move or just use the same number of turns to leave the current pokemon in and use two unresisted moves. you already massively overlevel whatever you're fighting, any attrition damage you suffer you can instantly fix after battle with your 100000 potions or run back and use the free pokemon center. theres no change in the decisions being made, just the time being wasted

of course they weren't truly easy, but you still have to put some thought and effort and time into getting the pokemon you want, getting them to a level high enough that you can comfortably handle the upcoming trainers, acquiring helpful items, none of that is even remotely necessary now since the exp is forced and the trainers are very underleveled, even gym leaders

Thought and effort? We playing the same games? Literally just using your starter gets you through every game and that's the most braindead thing possible. Trying to pretend switching out your Pokemon to gimp your exp gain is something requiring thought and effort is dumb, you're just playing suboptimally intentionally.
