Now imagine the mega WITH shell smash. sure, you lose a lot of bulk, but holy shit the firepower would be INSANE.

Granted, my favorite of the trio is Venusaur, so I've never used Blastoise because I hate it but I'm just happy that even if it's in the most backhanded way in the shittest game in the franchise, finally the tortoise gets thrown a bone.

yeah you're right. 170 Sp. Atk water spout in rain would be good but you'd almost never get to pull it off because your opponent will just make sure to attack it to cut its HP. Do any of the Drizzle mons learn follow me?

I'm not sure if they're removing megas and z-moves. They usually try to make the meta close to the current games. They're also kinda stupid about unreleased mons/moves/abilities.

For its time? It wasn't a bad game, a mess of a game, sure, but considering the OG Gameboy? Nah, gen 1 is fine

Gen 8 has a Battle Tower clone and less than 440 Pokemon to do Jackshit with

Yeah that speed boost is very useful when you’re either a do-nothing defensive mon or already using Shell Smash.

Not even a good move and doesn’t hit any Water resists. Go use Barbaracle, Tough Claws Brick Break/Cross Chop is stronger and you get STAB Stone Edge to not get hardwalled by Toxapex.

Blastoise is for Water STABS/Water Spout/Scald and/or Coverage
It's not too dissimilar from Mega Blastoise, except it can also use its Physical Moveset a bit

But it is? There is a 100 BST difference between the two—including 50 points in the stat you need to actually kill anything—and instead of having 120 BP Aura Sphere and Dark Pulse you get standard Water coverage with crappy 80 BP Aura Sphere.

Plus Speed to actually break some walls due to Shell Smash
White Herb keeps its bulk in Place
It's a jack of all trades, except it lost a lot of competition in this entry because 400+ Pokemon are gone

It lost a fair amount of competition but there are a *lot* of better mons than Blastoise. Cloyster still does Smash+Spin better, Barraskewda has the same coverage but better in every way and requires no setup, Barbaracle is a much harder Smasher to wall, Keldeo is coming back, and so on.

It’s not a jack of all trades, it’s a booster. Nothing else it has is even remotely worthwhile in standard play and this has been the case for seven gens straight. Realistically you’re running Smash/Surf/Aura Sphere/[Spin/Ice Beam], which isn’t hard to stop and is outclassed by all of the competing options.

Bad gimmick that will inevitably hit a resist for less than what Barbaracle’s Stone Edge or Barraskewda’s rain-boosted Liquidation would have. Or you’ll take any damage at all and suddenly it’s a wasted moveslot anyways.
