Gamefreak has always draged their ass when it comes to improving their games by virtue of their popularity and system limitations, but it's been catching up with them sense the 3DS. Like, at this point they're barely reaching GameCube design sensibilities well every other successful series has moved on.

You can pick a random jrpg on switch and it will probably be a better, higher quality game than nupokémon. Just played Atelier Ryza on switch recently, without a doubt a better game than SWSH. There's absolutely no need to mention BoTW to criticize sword and shit.

They already organized pokemon by body type.

All they had to do was work with some procedural animation systems to do the heavy lifting.

All the dogs generally move like dogs.
All the fish and birds generally move like fish and birds.
All the humanoid pokemon generally move the same.
A good chunk of pokemon are just floating or sitting or rolling objects.

Go in and polish stuff up afterwards. And bam you also have a framework for movement animations in future pokemon if they have similar physiology.

Nah, everything should just awkwardly swivel around a point axis.
