You find out basically immediately that Team Yell aren't a villain team, they're not a red herring.
They are a bunch of jobbers and their design is awful though. They feel tacked on because someone at GF decided the game was missing a team and added one last minute. They have almost no real story relevance.

Yeah, it would have been more interesting if Marnie's brother was the well-intentioned main antagonist. It would have given the story a "class warfare" angle, since looking at their shitty town you can't exactly blame them, but it was still a mistake to summon Eternautus since he is so dangerous.

I think the issue stems from the Galactic henchmen not really knowing that Cyrus' paradise was just an emotionless world. I remember some of them thinking that it was a universe with new energy sources or something. Don't take my word for that though. I just don't feel like looking it up. Even though it came after origins and Platinum, USUM Cyrus didn't seemed too shocked to see another person. He wanted to verify if you still had "spirit" before he realized that it wasn't his new world.

Usually its not even that just there's so few important npcs thats it's pretty obvious who will be the villain just from process of elimination.

I loved that she was evil, and that her kids actually felt abandoned by her. It's called character development, because when you beat her in battle she finds out that her kids needed to evolve and grow to become the best.

Nihilego had always been poisoning her mind so she went from 'neglectful mom more obsessed with finding her husband than taking care of her children' to 'Ultra Beast fetishist.' I never played USUM either and that was definitely a plot point in the original, Lillie even talks about how her mother has amnesia and is in a bad stupor from Nihilego venom withdrawal.

She's actually seemingly more sane in the ultra games. She works with the ultra recon squad instead of trying to release UB's into Alola. Their goal of stopping necrozma seemingly re-directed her UB mom related autism to being Alola's mom and protecting them from Necrozma. She then goes off the rails during the Aether raid and jumps into a portal with Guzma instead of following through with the URS' plan because she thinks they're incompetent/ she wants to personally get vengeance on ultra space for losing Mohn by saving Alola from Necrozma. She then gets her ass handed to her by Necrozma instead of shoving her head up a jellyfish and ODing.

I wouldn't say she's "good", but it's more more inconsistent and was probably better when she was flat out crazy. She still tortures Nebby to open the portal and has frozen pokemon for example. I guess you could make sense of it in a way. E.G. Aether was already freezing problematic pokemon, type: null. Nebby was popped out from the portal that sucked up Mohn, so this was part of her revenge trip. However, it still feels like a tonal swing.

I don't think anyone is acting like Lusamine is an innocent blameless saint. I just thought it was interesting to have a villain who was more pitiable than someone genuinely evil. We don't need every antagonist to be some genocidal dude who loves being evil. Lusamine was selfish and self-absorbed and didn't care about harming others or respecting the rights of Pokemon. This directly played into the themes of gen 7 which were about living in harmony with nature and respecting pokemon (which in turn applied to the Ultra Beasts).

Its a kids game, its not complex but it makes sense.

Why do people like Cyrus? He's just an autismo who wants to destroy the entire universe because of MUH FEELINGS. It's an interesting detail that he duped literally every other member of Plasma into joining his cause but aside from that I don't see why anyone would like him, even as a villain. Ghetsis has a lot more going for him and the fact that he's just evil is pretty refreshing since it's so obvious that Plasma's "plan" is retarded and wouldn't work anyway, but Cyrus was always so boring to me.

Digimon had the balls to do it ages ago. Pokéstar Studios found a way to do it. Just incorporate that sort of thing into the story. One of Pokémon's problems contributing to every game being the same shit is that the only fucking thing that exists is Pokémon.
