So why is it that they buffed the most powerful starter of all time (in vgc) while not giving anything to the other two? What was GF's thought process on this one, "flavor"? Close Combat doesn't make sense AT ALL

'roar would be so much better if he got Pyro Ball. Parting Shot is nice but doesn't fit on the AV set. Close Combat doesn't do anything for VGC.

I'm not talking about anatomy. From a lore perspective it doesn't make sense for a Dark type to learn the move that's about fighting head-on though.

As a wrestler he’s all about getting in close, he’s only dark type because he puts up a dark appearance. He’ll his moon Pokédex entry even talks about his punches and kicks.

The only descriptions we have for the move are some variation of "The user fights the foe up close without guarding itself," and practically all media appearances of the move are just a fast stream of kicks and punches. The move itself doesn't have any kind of moral character, it's just a bunch of quick blows.

Not a single dark type learned it before though. Fighting dropping any guard is simply the least dirty/smart/Dark thing you can do.

It's really weird the exception was made for the heel Pokemon out of all Dark types.

Interesting bit of trivia re: no dark types learning close combat, but just pretend he drops his guard by doing a long villainous monologue or something if it assuages your autism.

Apart from that, there are existing dark moves like, say, memento that literally kill the user. Or consider that hyperspace fury is practically identical to close combat (multiple fast blows, lowers defense). I don't think it's inconceivable that a dark type would drop its guard in service of some vicious attack
