Very satisfying blend of difficulty and Pokemon availability, so that beating the 6 maxed IV/EV Pokemon each Gym Leader, Rocket Boss, etc. has is hype, but more importantly doable as long as your smart or paranoid enough. Also the variety ensures that when you inevitably lose a Pokemon or two after each Leader fight, you usually have a variety of Pokemon waiting in the wings instead the vanilla games common problem of "fuck all I have left are a rattata and some generic Water types".
