I think it would be very beneficial for GameFreak to go back to making games with 2D sprites. 3D stuff is obviously not their forté.
I mean, look what they achieved with B2W2. Imagine what they could have done with the 3DS and Switch hardware.

agree, great spritework is always impressive imo. but too many people were begging for an """""open world"""" 3D 'console' pokemon game since at least gen 3/4 from what i remember. I cant help but blame them a bit.

Sadly a lot of people believe games that use 2D are outdated, so to go back at this point would certainly cause a stir. People think that things need to continually move towards realism or high quality realistic graphics with an open world setting. I do agree with you though.

The ideal world would be a new pokemon game that looks like B2W2 and plays like the gen 2 games. They could market it as a spinoff game, like Sonic Mania. Of course, this will never happen because of so many factors preventing this

Maybe a bit lower res, so there’s a point to them being sprites, but higher res than gen 5 too. Some in-between that doesn’t feel like it’s going backwards but still is pixel
