I think game freak has completely missed the point of what "aftergame" means for these games, it was like the "after party" when you where not satisfied by just finishing the games, it was the BIG reward for investing your time on them.
take for example Platinum after all the adrenaline of beating cynthia and watching the touching ending of your character returning to the first town, you are then invited to a new island with new Pokemon, new aesthetic and new music, in said island, not only do you finish galactic for good in a totally awesome new volcanic dungeon, but you also meet heatran in it.
after exploring this whole new mini-region, the motherfucking battle frontier is there, with 5 new guys to challenge, all with new music themes and gimmicks to give the whole experience a sense of adventure.
all you could feel when you explored these new places was a big "thank you for playing this game!" it was so full of life and adventure that watching the hollowness of SW/SH feels bizarre, why do they try to cather to this sort of "instant gratification GO player" model that doesnt even fucking exist? who DOESNT want more content? I{m pretty fucking sure any new pokemon GO player wouldve loved to see a bigger endgame to fufill their experience of what a well-done pokemon game can be.
