Why do people think TPC/Nintendo control Gamefreak? They're an independent company, they have nobody above them telling them what to do. Gamefreak own TPC (a third of it at least), not the other way around.

At best Creatures and Nintendo combined can pressure them with their combined share in TPC, but with the money flowing in why do anything differently? It would take a game actually not selling to make them even consider changing things up. I hate to say it, but most casual fans are completely unaware of most of what we're angry about, if SWSH still sells despite everything then there's pretty much nothing that can kill this franchise.

TPC very clearly controls how everything operates. Game Freak can own something and still be fucked several different directions at once the moment the loosened the grip on TPC. TPC is what controls the money, the money GF needs and TPC is what gives GF the time it needs.

Agree? The Pokemon Company is responsible for all the planning of the pokemon distribution and products. They are the reason why GF can't delay a game. If they did delay a game it would hault other productions like the anime, events, happy meal toys, ect. TPC is responsible for keeping GF in this 1 to 2 year game cycle with make it harder improve on futures games as they add more contents and move to higher consoles.

Probably not, I'd imagine the contract is designed so that Nintendo get limited control over who gets to make what Pokemon games, although they own the trademark which effectively secures their exclusivity for the series. Unless Gamefreak say yes their is nothing they can do.

New Vegas is a great game, but if a Pokemon game came out that was halfway broken as NV was on release, /vp/ would be throwing a shit fit right now. I’m not saying GF doesn’t have any flaws or anything, but the annual schedule doesn’t do them any favors, and is an active detriment to them getting any better. TPCi and Nintendo only need the games to introduce new merchandising opportunities in the form of Pokemon and characters, and pretending that pressure has no effect on development is stupid.

A franchise as lucrative as Pokemon would be able to find a way to sell merch and put out TCGs/Anime episodes/etc without requiring a new region or new pokemon. They've already abandoned Galar as the main setting for the anime, and half the movies recently have been remakes. Merchandise/TCG -wise they could just put out a damn line of shiny content and people would lap that up for a year +. The heads of Gamefreak have been happy to oblige the yearly cycle and that's why it continues, they've become comfortable with mediocrity.

Pretty sure it's TPC who's to blame. GF always had the internal mantra, that kids should have the chance to experience a new pokemon game twice while in elementary school, which translates to a game every three years. But GF is not the only one getting thrown under the bus. Since Sun/Moon the TCG is in overdrive too. Every single fucking month had seen at least one new expansion set. And their quality suffered too. Every third set was full of reprints and the amount of Sugimori stock artwork on a random background was more than noticeable.

GF controls 1/3rd of Pokemon.
They have full control over the games.
If they really wished to throw their weight around and deliver a quality product, they could. Nintendo's recent performance, another 1/3rd owner, shows they have no qualms delaying or restarting production on big games to deliver a satistying product.

They're also not likely wanting Ohmori to waste dev time on waifu and story shit when that's not what the series was about anyway and games would be even easier to shit out without it.

Nor would they likely be happy with half the merch that players would prefer by having 60 - 90 Pokémon instead of 150+ per release.

Nothing about this says TPC. Especially in the face of the guy deciding budgets and deadlines who is also board member for the company who owns them being such a retard.
