Honestly, where can the series go from here? Do SwSh sales really matter at this point?

Here's what I think will happen. SwSh will sell just fine. Maybe not as high as X/Y or SM but definitely more than 10 mil. If the game is actually badly received from reviewers and normies after release then I think Nintendo is gonna do some internal quality control as they own 33% of the Pokemon IP and Ninty cares about quality of their games a lot.

So best case scenario internally things at Gamefreak become much better and we'll get Sinnoh remakes or enhanced SwSh that is actually good and fixes a lot of the game and hopefully by doing this Gen 8 can be salvaged.

Worst case scenario is the series gets worse from here but I think that's unlikely because this feels like a major low point.

Nintendo eliminates Ishihara, takes full control of TPC, and kicks Game Freak to the curb.
With Game Freak gone, the series is given to competent developers.
With Ishihara gone, mobile focus is heavily toned down in favor of new titles on Nintendo's own platforms. Spin-offs become a thing again.

For me, the second outcome would be a major success, at least for now,as I've mostly tolerated game quality turning into shit since after gen5,as long as I can play with my bros.

This is not an option for game freak, as they heavily share the revenue for anything other than console games, and they get nothing from merch. If Masuda wants to continue holidaying, he needs to sell those console games

I'm thinking it more can go both ways here. Parents buying it for their kids regardless because lack of knowledge and or understanding of the grievances. Then people who do pay for their own and understand this is beyond simple bitching over a "game" but more about standards of a company running their flagship into the ground.

Yes, but that implies children play Pokemon, which perpetuates the idea that GameFreak had after gen 5 that started this whole mess. Their target audience and their player base, the two don't match, they target children, but children rarely play Pokemon, pre-teens, teens, and adults as old as 60 play, not kids. GameFreak not understanding this is what got us here, it's why this is boiling over now, and exploding into a worldwide controversy.

I would be really happy if these sell less than 10m. The only community I spend time discussing Pokémon is /vp so I don't know how Twitter or other shitters are right now. But a 67% decrease from the previous major release, with the LGPE doing as fine as it did seems very unlikely to me. I hope you're eight though

Making estimates is hard.
Also the success of this game doesn't only ride on the sales of the game alone. It's mostly just a vehicle (as is the anime) to sell merchandise, like their plushies.
Either way in the end it will fall to how the normies recieve this game and the debacle surrounding it. Imo they are more likely to be the ones buying cute toys compared to the average 4chan user.

No. As long as the merchandise keep selling it doesn't matter how shitty the game is, they'll keep on churning games for brand new monsters to make merch off of. It'll have to be monumentally trash like the Last Jedi (with the characters the merch is made to mimic being ugly, unappealing, or fat) to kill of any interest in kids buying the merch.

With a Westerner like James Turner and his "Western" sensibilities in the helm of designing the mons for the franchise it might actually happen, that and maybe NTR in the games or some shit.

I think this is ultimately what is gonna happen soon. Masuda will get the pinkslip, they might promote Morimoto or Unno to finish up this gen and then bring in some fresh outside help to start gen 9.
