I liked how the Aether Foundation wasn't a bunch of weirdos trying to take over/destroy the world and that through Lillie, you actually have a connection to said criminal organization, instead of just accidentally stumbling upon it and solving the issue before regaining your balance. I liked how it wasn't just a "Beat the gyms and get a prize" fare but a rite of passage to go through the island trials, like it's some unique Alolan tradition. I liked how the false flag criminals are not really criminals, just misfits that don't feel like they belong. I never quite cared about pokemon stories outside of BW before. They were always a bit too generic. But I can get behind SM's story.
