>>41138443Last game that did story and presented legendary or obfuscated/hidden pokemon in a passable way, by show-don't-tell/less-is-more approach.
RSE started the whole you're a 12-year-old-Mary-Sue destined to battle/catch the legendary box art which the evil enemy gang is trying to awaken, and you're the only special boy(tm) that can do something about it.
Like Ruins of Alph in GSC having ancient unown hieroglyphs speaking of ho-oh.
Or how the sages in the first town's Bellsprout tower allude to a sister tower in Ecruteak city that burned down a decade ago.
Or how the whirlpools in the ocean, which you need the HM for, are apparently caused by a mysterious Pokemon of whose existence is confirmed only by a single sailor's silver wing feather.
Or how the dancer's house with the individual eeveelution trainers in Ecruteak city refer to there being a previous set of Jolteon/Flareon/Vaporeon trainers allude to these previous dancer's losing their Pokemon in the fire.
Or how a mysterious rainbow (ho-oh) appeared after a storm (Lugia) that helped douse the burned tower's inferno.
Or how Raikou/Entei/suicune are like ho-oh's reincarnations of those eeveelutions.
Or how the rival only cares about strong Pokemon, not friendship, and has a Golbat stuck in his team until the last time you challenge him when approaching Mt. Silver, indicating he's learned how to treat his Pokemon like friends since that's exactly how the Golbat on his team must have evolved to a Crobat.
Or the symbolism of meeting the previous game's MC at the summit of Mt. Silver, indicating the previous MC has reached their "peak".
Eusine's addition in Crystal didn't enhance the story, and there was a midgame lull with the Team Rocket stuff, so it's not like Crystal is the peak of RPG """"storytelling"""", but by doing so little, it ironically did it better than every game coming after it.
