For me, it's because Cinderace isnt so much of a stretch from Scorbunny. I see them side by side and I can tell one came from the other. I wasnt expecting much else so I wasnt disappointed. Sobble on the other hand is ruined by this thing. I never would have expected it to turn into this anthro monstrosity. I legitimately feel bad for most players who pick sobble and will get this going in the game blind.

Where does the drum come from? At least with Farfetch'd, it finds a leek in the environment. How does it carry it around everywhere? What bothers me is that Rillaboom looks distinctly humanoid as well when it could’ve looked more gorilla like. Rillaboom has a tucked in stomach, non-flabby looking defined pectorals, and those weird ass human looking feet, and his face seems kind of soft looking rather than rough like an actual gorilla.

I’m not sure what intelleons design is really trying to do outside of the gloves. Why does a spy have a cape? Why does the wetsuit(at least what I’m assuming is meant to be one) only cover his front? What’s the white diamond meant to be? I know “haha fursuit human :^)” but at least cinderace’s design knows what it wants to be.

Incelleon is a blatant Gex reference, I'm not defending it but that's what it wants to be. It has the same stupid smug look and it has a similar finger gun animation. If you mean in attitude then yeah I can see that. I'd say this gen is lacking "aggressive" Pokemon as a whole though so there's nothing to compare Appletun's reception to. Drednaw and Corviknight are probably closest and they were two of the most popular out of the pre-leak known mons.

Drednaw was popular? It was basically treated as another Druggidon from what I saw. People hated the lego face. Honestly after seeing the stupid peanuts turtle it evolves from I do like the design more, the toyish appearance fits how it evolves from a literal cartoon.

Back when everyone was rating the revealed designs here Drednaw was widely rated one of the best and at worst "ok i guess".
Then again most of the praise was from /vp/ who hated the sheep while everyone outside of here loved the sheep, so you're right that maybe the average fan didn't care for Drednaw.

I feel the drum and footballer aesthetic could have been done better for Rillaboom and Cinderace (perhaps make the drum part of Rillaboom's chest, and make Cinderace look less like a fursuit), but I do like them overall and am planning to use them.
But Inteleon was a disappointment. I always use the water starter first (even Popplio), but this time I don't really feel like it. Ever since gen 1 with Blastoise I went water first, but I'm not going to this time. I'll probably go Scorbunny.

With time I came up to only find Inteleon bad. Cinderace is a very good character design, even if it is not really good as a pokémon design. Rillaboom is not as good of a design in general as Cinderace, but works much better as a pokémon species.
