Why is one of the main ""critiques"" I keep seeing from these "game journos" is the lack of voice acting? Have they played dubbed japanese games? Do they not realize how cringe and ear-grating it would be?

Worse is when each character only has little quips or catch phrase they say and it isn't fully voice acted. Everytime they switch who's talking through text you have to hear some stupid little saying.

I don't think Pokémon should have voice acting. HOWEVER the way they animate some of the cutscenes implies voice acting, and it's extremely bothersome when you see lips flapping with no sound for 10 seconds before you can go to the next line of text.

Because it's objectively bad in 90% of dubbed games. And I highly doubt Gamefreak of all developers will get it right. Voice acting in that vein adds nothing to the experience, and if anything makes it worse and ruins the immersion by having to hear some jarring, over-acted squeaky voice during gameplay

Dubtards are in general used to how bad dubs sound and think "that's just how anime/games/movies/whatever sounds". A lot of them also primarily coonsume dubbed media and play/watch very little voiced stuff that was originally produced in English, so they genuinely have no concept of proper vooice acting.

I don't care if a game has voice acting or not. Doesn't matter if it's American, Japanese, or Nigerian, it sucks 90% of the time.

I just mute the game, put on my own music and go.

It does have voice acting. Listen to Pikachu and Eevee.
I don't see why Pokemon can't take a Sims/Aeselia approach and have the characters speak an indiscernable language. No need to redub at that point. Keep the mon cries.
