If you die with your starters before Rayquaza it's game over yeah. Afterwards if one of your mons that isn't leader die they have to be released. In the case of your OG partner you just stop using him.
Compared to others I'm not much into the one recruit per dungeon thing. I allowed myself to recruit whatever pretty much (though I always recruit the first one and generally it stops there since most of the time I'm already with 3 mons, and since I advance the plot as soon as I can I generally don't re-visit dungeons) since I make the rules on the items much harder on myself.
I have the one same item limit, meaning the best kit for food I can get is an apple/big apple/giant apple and a gummi of my type. Hunger isn't the problem though, it's without a doubt PPs. Having only one max elixir per dungeon brings the realest challenge about these games. Everything becomes a gamble. It's pretty fucking great, though I wonder what I'm really gonna be able to do when I'll have to do the dungeons with 99 stages. But so far so good. Also other miscellaneous stuff like no Makuhita Dojo and if you fail an escort mission through your client's death you have to delete it and can't retry it. Also always keep all your money on you to go along with that possibility.
