You'd be missing out on references to the first game but it's not like it's that complex or hard to understand, all you'd have to know is that there was another adventure that went on through Unova involving that game's protagonists, who took down Team Plasma and acquired Reshiram or Zekrom, and then two years later, Black 2 and White 2 happen and Team Plasma's up to no good again.
Black and White are good though, so it wouldn't hurt to play 'em, although gameplay wise I think Black 2 and White 2 are way more engaging.
