I didn't like gen 7 competitive and I'm not gambling $60 to find out if I like 8, especially since I already beat the game for free and was extremely underwhelmed to the point I don't even want to optimize my team for postgame, of which there isn't any.
The game is an empty shell when compared to even Sun and Moon. Killing off the festival plaza and allowing egg moves to be transfered are the only notable real improvements, everything else is just less for $20 more.
