Probably, I doubt the sales aren't going to get impacted at all. Games will still sell well, but something like 2 million less than normal is still a thing they'd want to avoid.

I hope they cut more. The game has way too much content and no one will use most of it other than the 1% of autistic competitivefags. Pokemon is a game made to have fun for a weekend and move onto another game.

There's a good possibility
While this game is the worst in the series relative to its release/console there's no secret a lot of the scrutiny came from the reduced dex, it takes away one of Pokemon's few boons over the competition (800+ possible party members)
If they keep the full dex, they get the 'Quantity > Quality' argument back on their side
Even if the game sells, there's no doubt sales HAVE been lost, lowering the cap of average 16 million to (for example) 13 million means they lost 3 million sales for no justifiable reason (As seen in the leaks, the models are exactly the same as before) and garner a lot of bad faith in public while if they had put every mon in, the backlash would no doubt have been less severe

Such a horrible mechanic. You can keep your pokemon's hold items, 130 base power move that sets up stealth rock or boosts your attack too.
Everyone will need to play stall just to wait out the dynamax, how boring.

I'm fine with the dex cut if the overall quality of the game reflects it, but I don't think GF will learn from this - I do feel they'll lose a decent amount of fans though, #GameFreakLied was #1 in several countries yesterday

There's just so much bloat. I get that every Pokemon is somebody's favorite, even Bayleaf for some reason, but the bigger the roster gets, the more time consuming it must be to rebalance it all. It's why Smash Ultimate has been lacking on balance updates. There's just so much to keep up with, and that game has two devs behind it. If a smaller roster means more focus and attention to what's there, I'm down for it. Also Bayleaf. Cut Bayleaf. Pokemon would be better if Bayleaf was never acknowledged ever again.

My theory goes like this. They wanted to test the water to see if they could get away with this crap, but were not expecting this kind of backlash.
Nintendo and TPC have to see the backlash and will act.
They will then use the remaining pokemon as a selling point for the third version.

I will give gamefreak this, They probably were rushed to get the game out for the holidays, and we all know gamefreak can't make anything better than a Early DS game.
Look at little town heroes they were trying to put so much effort into.

Masuda won't step down, but I think there will probably be a representative looking over his shoulder for the foreseeable future to make sure this shit doesn't happen again.
But all this depends on the after release reviews. All the major publications have given it high scores already but that's to be expected, you pay them enough they will give you GOTY, it's the meta critic and fan reviews that are going to decide it.

The most time consuming thing would be testing them all, which as apparent by the current final product of gen 8, they clearly dont do anyway as theres no quality control for any of the bullshit in the climax.
