>>41167059I don't remember seeing a single Final Fantasy character in Kingdom Hearts 3, even Vivi and those two other guys who live in Twilight Town, if they were there, I missed them. This essentially betrays the premise of Kingdom Hearts as a Final Fantasy and Disney crossover. Sure, the Final Fantasy magic system is still there, but where are the cameos? They were the bulk of the supporting cast in the first game. Cloud's story ended on a cliffhanger in Kingdom Hearts 2.
Speaking of cliffhangers, Tron's story ended on a cliffhanger in DDD and he is also nowhere to be found.
It feels like the overall narrative hasn't progressed since Kingdom Hearts 2. Everything, and I do mean everything, about the Kingdom Hearts specific storyline feels like "remember Kingdom Hearts 2?" which is very strange, since Kingdom Hearts 2 is what made people anticipate 3 in the first place. Essentially, people were made to look forward to something that in turn asked them to look back. I mean, there's not a single new villain in Kingdom Hearts 3, just a bunch of people we've seen before. They offer neither anything new or of substance of themselves either.
The plot is reductive and stupid. The heroes are preoccupied with saving other "heroes" that they've never met based on stories that they've been told. A significant portion of the game is dedicated to the apparent fulfillment of this task, the requisition of strangers who starred in one of the series' worst entries several years prior.
Later on, there is some pandering to the playerbase of an unsolicited mobile game. More power to those players, I'm sure it was exciting for them, but it did nothing for me emotionally. In fact, all the numerous plot points vaguely lifted from the mobile game made me do is question why Square Enix went through the trouble of bundling up and then re releasing the earlier games several times over. But I already knew the answer; not for the sake of narrative cohesion, but of revenue.
