The stat bonus is the whole point of natures, unless you really care about specific natures for "roleplay" purposes.

Its more of an annoyance that it can happen since if you had a good nature now you have to use a mint to revert it if you're unlucky

I'm not big on comp but doesn't the characteristic and nature have nothing to do with each other, so changing the nature wouldn't change the characteristic since thats tied to IVs?

No, you're correct. Characteristic just looks at what the highest IV is and what the actual value is.

Since proud of it's power was a non-31 IV, it was already possible to use one competitively thanks to Bottle Caps regardless of Nature.
