trick question, just like Monster Hunter Pokemon is better with as little story as possible. cut most of this crap, add more trainers and content along the way and more ways to explore and keep shit like legendaries vague and mysterious.

The story would be centered around a fascist group of communists (evil team) who want to use tech made by Bill shortly before passing of old age (set in the future, maybe 20~40 years) to clone Pokemon while they're data within pokeballs, rather than via cellular cloning, and distibute them equally so everyone has access to the same Pokemon equally, then selling them for outrageous prices ala team rocket, but in the end they actually wanted to amass an army of clones to shield them from the outside world while they capture the region's legendaries (I'm thinking maybe a region based on Russia), use them to wipe all other Pokemon off the face of the earth, clone the legendaries, and then sell one to each world power to trigger a massive mutually assured destruction type war in order to create peace, ala Pain in Naruto.

It then turns out to have been orchestrated all along by a mysterious figure in the background as a decoy so he could track down and catch the 3rd legend without interference from the protag, and use its power to manipulate reality itself in order to purge the world of half of all people in existence ala Thanos, which he dies, wiping out your asshole rival and the annoying chick who stalks you but isn't a waifu cuz she has a realistic body image. Checked, but I'd say that this is only the case if GF continues to write stories without professional writers and forced waifus.
Nobody expects a Kojima hallway simulator where you get bombarded with Nietzsche, Plato and Aquinas without any interaction.
But I actually liked BW's approach and I think it could be further expanded. Just don't make it too in-your-face and less handholdy, give characters an actual personality and motivation and make the villain have better motives than you, the protagonist, do

I loved Gen 5 to be honest. but you know they wont make another gen like it, the only time we got good story games outside it was with spinoffs like PMD Explorers of Sky and the Colosseum Series. they weren't overly complex either but they were enjoyable and cohesive. since they cant make a good story anymore I would rather return to roots of having lots of content and an actual world to discover and find things in. it was one of the things that made the transition to gen 3 for me enjoyable was the exploration and mystery.

To be perfectly honest, I though RRT was better the the Explorers games, but they were still better than SuperPMD was by far, and I agree, massive thought provoking stories like Gen 5 and Colosseum won't ever happen again if GameFreak won't even try to understand the problem. The problem itself is simple, they underestimate how many "veteran" players there are, their target demographic is kids, and sure some kids play, and some parents buy them for their kids, but most of the player base is teens and adults. They figured they were a small minority, and while in Japan at least they may be a minority, they're far from small, especially in the west. That's why the nat dex cut was such a big deal, and why the lack of quality control in SwSh is so bad, kids wouldn't care, but the whole world is pissed, so obviously kids aren't the issue here, it's the company being out of touch with their player base.

Rather than 1 epic story, it will be a series of smaller episodes to make a single narrative. Each town/route has optional side-quest that the player can partake in. The choices you make will actually have an effect on the overall story. Key story events are based on how many badges you own, rather than what the badges are. When you receive a number of badges, your Smartdex will ring and an npc will call to tell you to come to X location.

Said friend was close when you and your sibling were younger kids, but he doesn't have a good home life. He will be your rival. His home life issues I would like to try and handle in a mature fashion though that is appropriate for kids.

For example, his parents are together but his mom and dad have some clear issues. In a flash back when the 3 of you were at the rival's house for a sleep over the rival's parents off screen are heard smacking the rival for when they were woken up by mistake and were clearly hung over. Your parents at one point for as the back story develops didn't want you going over to your friends house anymore but were ok with your rival coming over to yours still.

What twin you are will be how you choose your gender. But you can classify both and use both of them still. You and your twin are both actually close. You will have a younger brother or sister as well that will be idolizing you in game as well. In general your family are shown to be close to each other.

This will be an underlining issue of what caused your rival and you to not be as friends anymore as time went on.

There isn't gonna be any the world is at stake story line, the main story to the quest if anything would be if the rival ends up following in his parents foot steps or gets over it. You lose to the rival at various points in the story will cause him to follow worse paths such as joining Team Rocket or so.

Trainer classification will have actual options like how old you and your twin and rivals are, and shapes. You will be able to customize your younger sibling as well some with this in mind if you want.

My main gripe with SworShie is that they actually had a nice idea. Galar is soon to be ruined, and Rose is actually sacrificing himself to save Galar from the energy crisis. But GF made sure that he acts cartoonishly stupid so that his awesome battle theme and animations got wasted. Such a shame, the plot only needed some refining and the removal of some of the annoying interactions and characters like Hop or Sonia. Or at least make them more serious and less intrusive and handholding.

I agree. If it was the same GF, I would rather pick a Pokémon game whose main focus is exploration.
Then again, the OP states that you have total control over the plot, so maybe you could turn around the trend of the bad plots GF uses.

this sounds like it is beyond GF's ability.. they cannot even make sound designs or properly balance the meta and solo game. let alone actually think up a decent story.

Just rehash gen 1’s story. A simple plot about the protagonist completing the pokedex and fighting the rival and becoming champion, so people can self-insert easily. And throw in a side plot with an evil criminal organization doing regular bad guy things. No grand story about them using the box legendary for world conquest or whatever.

It kinda reminds me of the simpsons in a way, specifically when the movie happened
though that might be due to my only experience with this generations feelings on Pokemon being younger family members losing interest in Sun and Moon and never touching it again.
