Why do people buy the same Pokémon game twice? To see different color title screens? I don’t get it.

Multiple saves. I used to buy one to play through and make teams to play with on and then like a few months later, I'd buy the second version to do "challenge runs" on so I wouldn't have to sacrifice any progress on one game to do a run.

I never delete my save file on my "main game" .

If I really enjoyed a certain game, I might later end up buying the other version too if I find it at good price, so I can start a new run just for fun.

I used to buy every title both for collector purposes and to trade with myself for the gazillion trade evolutions and version exclusives. I think that’s why most do it. I’ll be damned before I buy a second Switch, though to do the same for these new shit games.

This is going to be one of those games like sun/moon where your gamestop tradein section is full of them after 6months-1year because as soon as the hype dies down it's actually a low content game with no replayability or postgame

You have 2 kids begging for POGEMANS, you will give the other copy to someone else as a gift, before the Switch the lack of multiple savefiles could also be enticing (And things like Powersaves solve that issue even before the Switch) things like that, this isn't exactly hard to grasp.

The reason that I always bought the second version was so that I could keep the save file on my first. I would always get too attached to my Pokemon and any accomplishments I made in a game to delete the file. So if I wanted to play the game again, I would buy the second version, which I would be less sentimental towards and could replay as often as I liked. Thanks to emulators I don't have to worry about save files anymore, and I really do think that it is time for Pokemon to move away from the two version tradition.
