You haven't beaten a Pokemon game when you complete the story. You have to catch and evolve all the Pokemon at a minimum. If you intend to battle online you're also looking at getting good versions of every Pokemon. Either way I would say the average player will get at least 30 hours out of it, hardcore players will be much longer of course.

Normal Pokemon will at least catch every Pokemon available even if they don't evolve all of them. Normal people will also take a lot longer to go through the game in general because they will keep switching in new Pokemon getting underleveled.

For comparison's sake:

Wester beast SM in 10 hours his first run.
He beat XY also in about 10 hours.
He beat Let's Go Pikachu in about 9 and a half hours.

So 8 hours is criminally short even by Wersters standards. The supposed hardcore game meant for longtime fans is shorter than the casual babyfest that was Let's Go.

Sure its possible, once you know exactly where to go, what to do, never die, kill every boss very fast, etc. But this was a full first play through of the Pokemon game.

A first play through of dks3 is gonna run you more like 30 or 40 hours depending on how good you are and how much you explore and grind.

I'd say wait purely based on the fact that it's divisive. I liked the game a lot and it felt worth full price for me, but some people are likely to flat out hate it. And like the other anon said it's long, you're likely to go hours at a time without a single cutscene
