This should've been equivalent to Volcarona. It would be kept in check by virtue of its terrible defensive typing alone. I swear, Volcarona being as good as it was was a fluke, because they refuse to make strong Bug-types.

Ice was extremely strong in gen 1.
It was nerfed hard in gen 2.

It was never really dead because ice STAB was always valuable. Many ice types in SwSh are actually amazing. Penguin, Rape Ape, Kyurem, Lapras, etc.

It has basically 70/200 special bulk thanks to its ability. It can setup QD very easily against special attackers other than fire. Rock, steel and flying special are basically non-existent.

Is that a problem though? You just want to send it in lategame after special attackers are gone or in KO range. Its very presence forces the opponent to play carefully because otherwise they have to deal with something with BD and 130 speed. Also, Max Hailstorm is still an option to renew ice face once.

They clearly weren't thinking about balance when they made Gorilla Tactics, since Dynamax REMOVES THE MOVE LOCK-IN WHILE KEEPING THE ATK BOOST.
Same deal with Choice items.

Darm-G is broken beyond belief.

Avalugg has 95/184 physical defense, and you don't see him running rampant. Ice is just the worst defensive typing, and bug isn't very good either.
Hopefully Quiver Dance is enough to keep it viable, if not it could have an alright chance as a support mon in hail teams.

They should have just made Ice the Dragon-killing type. Yeah sure Dragons breath fire and shit but that's taken care of; make it so Dragons need to carry a fucking fire move or risk getting raped, even if it has to be Hidden Power Fire.

There's absolutely no justification for making such an OP type as Fairy, which also gimps other types. Not to mention it made Steel not only hands-down the best defensive type, but also probably in the top 5 attacking types as well.

It needs Roost, which is currently unavailable. If the next gen 8 games add a tutor for it then yes it will be usable as a bulky QD sweeper. Best used in rain teams with ice beam+hurricane to deal with grass types imo.

I recall Froslass wrecking shit back in gen 4/5. Mamoswine was good for a while too.

Kyurem is probably really good now since it got some new moves.
Mamoswine has always been a strong physical attacker, and access to Ice Shard made it scary.
Weavile was good, but won't be nearly as good without Pursuit.

You're not setting up QD when your opponent has a very common scarfer still around. Since you're running heavy-duty boots on this thing there is no harm in switching in and out on early and mid-game, considering how rare Knock Off is now.

I'd be happy with Ice resisting Water, almost nothing does and it would be useful since unlike Grass and Dragon Water-types wouldn't be able to just Ice Beam their problems away. Ice doesn't need to be better offensively so keep the Ice resistance on Water, not unlike the Fighting-Bug interaction.

Please don't bring up the laws of thermodynamics to bash this idea, we're talking magical pets here.
