He was kinda lame, and Team Flare just didn't have much impact. The plan was dumb too. I'm only saying his motives are understandable, at least to me. It is climate change, if it were going to have even the slightest effect in 1,000 years. So he decides to interrupt and ruin his own tournament instead of waiting a single day. That isn't how humans work though. A normally person doesn't just go OH LMAO MY HUSBAND IS GONE WHATEVS. Especially as it is a case where it isn't even clear if he is dead. That doesn't resemble abuse in the slightest. There is this thing called loving someone. Aether Foundation's whole deal is researching Ultra Space anyway. So if you remove the husband aspect then she'd still have the same fate just as a scientist who dug to deep and looked into the abyss. Either way it is madness caused by her research, it is a logical chain of events that what she messed with poisoned her mind.

Compared to, in 1,000 years our fun pokemon battle gimmick will run out. In 10 years that shit could stop being popular and ratings drop, in 5 someone might figure out a better solution. His need to act at all, never mind now makes no sense. You can't even really make it about he is worried about his livelihood, cause his actions ruin his reputation. Can't even plead insanity.

Don't even get me started on that, like, wtf was up with that?! I mean, her intentions are never clear, her motivations are shaky based on timelines given by her and others, and the she just ditches Mohn when she finds him, and drops it all. At the very best she's literally a sociopath, and that's the best possible explanation for her continuous inconsistency, or it's up to GameFreak being stupid, in which case they ruin an at least decent design by shitty backstory that they managed to fuck up.

At least in SM it seemed like she may have contacted a Nihilego prior to the start of the game and had been infected by its toxins which took its toll on her sanity. She acted saner in USUM to the detriment of the plot.

It's not directly told to you in Sun/Moon, and it isn't given a total conclusion, which makes Lusamine's arc WAY more believable.

What I can't still believe is how USUM make SM worse than they were in everything but move tutors.

It was never stated. However Lillie said that Lusamine made her wear the clothes she was wearing, and Lillie's clothes made her resemble a Nihilego which seems to hint that she's seen one before and she was obsessed with it. That along with Lusamine acting very mentally ill and the info about what Nihilego's neurotoxin does also adds to the theory. Maybe she was even infected in the same incident where Mohn was lost.

On the topic of Lusamine, I feel her character was terribly mishandled. The games never gave her proper motives or a goal so she just comes off as inexplicably insane and unlikable over petty reasons. If the games had actually taken the time to properly explore her character while taking the grief over losing her loved ones into account, she would have been a much stronger character overall. Unfortunately, Lillie was the main focus and a personal victim of hers, so by course any genuine sympathy or nuance could Lusamine could've had as a villain gets thrown out the window for a Cinderella-esque story featuring aliens.

Lillie and Gladion may have needed a better mother but Lusamine needed competent writers.

I'd like to give the writers the benefit of a doubt and claim Lusamine was never "under the influence" of Nihilego's toxins up until the climax of the vanilla SM games where she fuses with one. And that the idea that she encountered one in the past is only fan speculation with literally everything she did being due to her own fragile ego and inability to cope with the idea of losing those she loved. The problem is the writers didn't know how to give her arc a proper conclusion or have her convey any kind, motherly traits and instead just lazily has her complimenting her daughter out of nowhere and getting better offscreen. Lusamine seriously needed more proper focus.
