Game is not free of sin, but IMO does some things okay, like the Outworld Encounters and the interactions a slow as fuck shuckle, scared wimpod, baby mons running towards the player with open arms...

Mon variety is great especially with all the different weather changes

Really like TRs and how you gotta think before you use them, good way to balance between unlimited and limited TMs

Rewards from max raid battles are great

Towns are actually pretty big and exploration isn't terrible

Trainer cards are fun and make customisation worthwhile

Bike is fast

Unpopular opinion, getting rid of elite four.
Now wait here you faggots.
The idea of implementing the tournament isn't bad, it would've been tons better if we had actually built relationships with the npcs and rivals during the game. But unfortunetly it's just gym leader rematch trash.

Maybe even making the tournament a tournament to give you rights to challenge the elite four, would've been better.

Basically good idea, bad execution

If there werre any worthwhile NPCs instead of E4 then I wouldn't mind the tournament format. Rebattling Gym leaders is straight boring.

Well that's it. These are the most "soulful" things about the games,overshadowed by how janky the game really is

A lot of the QoL changes are stuff I've been wanting for a while so I'm happy on that front. Raising new battle-ready Pokemon should take a fraction of the time now

I think my only genuine gripe with the game so far (national dex aside) is the absolutely horrid wallpapers for PC boxes. They're just a bunch of generic fucking patterns.

And the Wild area is fucking phenominal, I wish the full national dex were in so they could do raid battles with non-native Pokemon as events and shit, which we'll probably get, but we already know which ones are even possible so it's less exciting.

Not a QoL change, but a balance change: If you put a Pokemon into the box it doesn't get instantly healed, so you can't just swap it out really quickly and then swap it back in to get an instant field heal.

The character customization is great, and I love the way trainers interact with you during battles, especially the gym leaders' animations.
Do you see the leaders a lot outside of their gyms? It's something I've missed since gen 5, leaders with their own personalities and stories. I know there's the card collecting, but that feels more like an infodump than talking to them and seeing them do things.

AND they kept regional variants. I’m a huge biology nut so Pokémon subspecies is one of the coolest ideas to me. Bleached coral and Viking runestone are also depressing but clever and sick af respectively.

I also want to mention the leak season even though it’s a /vp/ thing. Leakerchad threads, discussing new mons, the countdown to see if your bros made it in, it was a blast.

They have maybe one or two cutscenes as part of the story either before or afterwards but nothing substantial or memorable, except for maybe Opal. But no it's definitely not Gen 5 levels of lore. No houses to visit or seeing them in the overworld on your journey.

I love that the gym challenge is some big event, instead of just something you do. It makes it feel grand.
Pokemon variety is great Yes, I know when I get to the post game it'll be a problem, but for the main game it's great
Stone evolutions for some previous evolutions
Keeping the box system from Let's Go but actually disabling it inside gyms.
Max raids are really enjoyable.
I quite like the wild area and wouldn't mind it being expanded upon.

It definitely doesn't excuse the flaws, but I think the skeleton of something greater is there.

I’m unironically impressed with how good the game looks in handheld mode. The resolution doesn’t dip into dog shit 240p ranges in the wild area like some other switch games do. Even in docked mode the game looks pretty good and is currently the best looking 3D pokemon.

I'd argue that PBR rendered at 720p on Dolphin looks better but this is definitely the best looking official Pokemon game.

Which says a lot.
