There is no more full odds hunting(though the 1/8k has been gone for a while now), the odds of you getting a shiny of a specific species passively goes up every time you battle that specific pokemon.

i don't know how true is that but right now i have encountered 261 pokemon and the number battled in the dex is a 1 or 0 so it doesn't go up if you don't defeat it

Totodile in Soulsilver. It's an easy hunt but this one took 6 months - but at least now I have a shiny starter in all the copies of SS/HG I own.

I have not cared about 6/7th gen hunting methods and avoided them like the plague. The same can be said for SWSH.

To be quite honest learning that the gen 8 starters would be shiny locked was the moment I knew I wouldn't even be buying the games second hand. I may reconsider if they remove the lock from the starters in a future patch, but knowing GF they'll probably sit around with their thumbs up their asses and not do anything.

That sounds really annoying what's the cut off point? Because obviously if the rate changes with the encounter you're going to be playing the game so much that every other encounter with that specific pokemon could be a shiny version of it

So what's that mean percentage wise? I'm not sure what re-rolls mean in this sense. I wish Nintendo would hurry up with a patch, I don't want a bricked switch I have the game right in front of me right now

The starting odds are out of 4092, your odds will get slightly higher at getting a shiny encounter for a particular with each time you encounter that particular Pokemon. So if you have say 500 encounters registered you have better odds of a shiny encounter than if you had 50 encounters.

Do we still not know what actually counts as a chain in gen 8? I labbed out hundreds of encounters under different parameters like only going for the hidden patches, not moving between encounters, killing, catching, whatever, and I'm not noticing any of the usual chain benefits (higher levels? IVs? making that species show up more commonly?? nothing)
I just want a shiny Zig; what the fuck is the actual method here?

Rng to emerald is broken, you can't get it by soft resetting, only by waiting a certain time, sometimes up to weeks continuous play, to get the correct shiny frame. The reason being that the seed generator is broken but you wouldn't understand it unless you research it. Suffice to say, you're wasting your time.
