The amount of misinformation being spread by shills and haters is ridiculous considering the truth about the glitch is only a simple Google search away.
https://twitter.com/SciresM/status/1195341413484883969In short, the problem is due to an bug with the Switch's shitty exFAT driver. A similar issue has been known for over a year (
https://github.com/switchbrew/libnx/issues/161#issuecomment-419854684) but previously it was only really known to affect homebrew software. SwSh seem to be the first commercially released software that triggers the bug, which might force Nintendo to actually resolve the issue now. It makes sense that a bug as serious as this one would be a fault with the OS rather than the game, after all a game should not have the privileges to corrupt data related to other games. Although given Game Freak's track record for buggy software, it's not surprising that people immediately point the finger at them. The bug corrupts SD card data, but the Switch stores all its save data on system memory, so your save data won't be wiped. It will destroy the contents of your SD card though if it is using exFAT, which will most likely mean all you game data will be corrupted, but you should be able to redownload it all from the eShop. It will waste a lot of time but there won't be any permanent loss.
Basically, if you don't want to lose your data you have four options:
1) Don't play the game at all
2) Wait for Nintendo to patch this shit
3) Buy a physical copy instead
3) Use an SD card formatted with FAT32 instead
As for the Switch getting bricked/orange screened, that's most likely a hardware fault. It has happened before on several devices long before SwSh were released.
