xiii had god tier music and pretty good visuals, and the sequel did infinitely more than any third version for pokemon

I played it at the time and the main problem was how fucking linear it was. People call it Final Hallway XIII for a reason. Not to mention the over the top story with a bunch of made up buzzwords

That being said, the graphics were great and I semi-ironically like the games similarly to the Star Wars Prequels

I literally had to play without sound at some points because it was so terrible, it made xii and x-2 sound good by comparison.

It seems only the music and graphics were focused on. The entire game except the end is just go from the start of the hallway to the end and fight a boss. It takes too long to get experience points toward the end, and all I needed to do was mash auto attack except for a few fights. The end has somewhat of a hubworld with a few areas where you can do missions but the missions are really boring and it takes too long to go from one area to the next at that point. A lot of these issues were fixed up some in the sequel, but it was still a hallway game.

Masashi Hanauzu is a great composer and the XIII trilogy has wonderful tracks, eg. Oerba, Vile peaks.

The graphics are great and in general there is a feel of magic and fantasy attached to the world of XIII

I feel bad for people who couldn't really enjoy XIII, it certainly doesn't deserve to be bashed like that, but well...

13 does a very poor job of setting up the story and lore and confines the player to a hallway simulator for the first 80% of the game. It fucking blows cause the last 20% of it when it opens up is actually really fun.

My point stands. Every song in the Toriyama's Waifu Trilogy sounds the same, and none of them stand out amongst each other, let alone the rest of the Final Fantasy series.

Basically all the makings of a bad game for series vets. The sequel fixed just about every issue with only the story taking a huge hit. (It's completely nonsensical if you never played the first game due to all the terms everybody uses) Also I know FF fans will hate this but the 13 games did the ATB battle system better than any other FF game (except maybe X-2 and Chrono if you count that.)
