Is this the first time they've included meat items in Pokemon? I thought they were always really careful about that sort of thing. Wasn't there a handbook for staff or something a while back telling them to avoid showing meat in Pokemon media?

I realize vegetarian sausage exists, just weird that they decided to include it when it's not like a key ingredient to curry.

Did you miss the last two generations where you ate fish and meat dishes in restaurants? They're probably subtly introducing normal animals again like in the old gens, especially since they had mundane butterflies in Gen 6.

As I recall, the restaurants in Gen 6 were actually very careful to make sure almost none of the items outright stated to have meat in them. The only exception is Slowpoke Tail, which I guess is more of a nod to Gen 2 and I don't believe it's ever been implied you need to kill the Slowpoke to get their tail. There was other stuff like Arbok venom and Skiddo milk, and some vague items like "Nigiri sushi".

Do you remember which dish it was? Like I said I do remember there being various sushi dishes, but they had generic names like "nigiri" or whatever which obviously doesn't outright state it has fish on it.

"Objectively" it's not any less ethical than eating any other kind meat, but if you grew up in Western culture you'd likely have some cultural hesitations.

The British and their American descendents especially just have a more romanticized view of horses and companion animals compared to continental Europe, where eating a companion animal like a horse is considered normal. They're treated like dogs in the US in that respect.

That's based entirely on women's equestrianism. You can eat roasts and apparently magikarp and other meats in gen 6 at some of the restaurants, and another straight up sells fucking sushi. Im not shocked if theres some pokemon raised specifically to be food.

I can only remember that happening in the early days when the franchise wasn't as well-defined yet. Original series anime had some generic birds and fish and the occasional joke, but I don't think they've had generic animals for a long ass time now.
