It removed the day and night cycle and the days of the week
a.k.a. oh look I have to wait 6 hours to catch a Hoothoot in the wild and shit I can't go to the bug catching contest because it's not the right day! I gotta wait two days for that shit.
Oh and it removed some of the Apricorn balls, but that wasn't a major loss. The only thing they shouldn't have removed was the animated sprites from Crystal, they are the best in the series.

Ah yeah I was talking about the cosmetic changes. The clock is still important for things like the Shoal Cave, the lottery and battling trainers in their secret bases.

Yeah I think it had to do with the OG GBA's screen which wasn't great compared to the previous Game Boys.

Which were okay but they are basically just two frames + tweening effects. It'd be nice if they introduced them in RS at least, so we could have them in FRLG as well, but hey it worked out to be a selling point to convince conusmers to buy Emerald
