Why didn't reviewers call these things out. Like fine, you don't personally care about the national dex because you're not a long time player. I disagree with it not being an issue but I can understand it personally not being a bother.
But the world design of this game consisting of mostly fucking corridors with background set dressing is an objective fucking issue, why was it not mentioned?

It's the typical casualization routine: indirectly sabotage feature -> remove feature because it was pointless because of sabotage.
Overworld poison damage stopped at 1 hp because it would mess up cutscenes, then it was removed altogether because it made no sense to stop at 1 hp.
Give zero exposure to wonder launcher, triple battle, rotation battle so nobody knows they exist -> wonder launcher removed in next game, battle formats a few years afterwards.
Dumb down dungeons by reducing their numbers, making them linear, having no random encounters, giving you infinite ropes -> dungeons are pointless anyway, only routes now.
Basically the same thought process behind removing inventory and planet exploration in Mass Effect 2 because they were implemented in annoying ways in 1.

Explorable area of the game visualised.
Look at all the possible dungeons begging to be explored. Look at that mountain the train is going through. Look at those icy mountains behind the ice gym. Look at the forest to the right side of the wild area.
You can't go to any of it.

I remember when I interpreted the reinstatement of a proper Victory Road in USUM as an admission that they fucked up by not having one, possibly due to the originals being rushed. Then they do the same fucking thing this time. Then I remember Ohmori didn't direct USUM, and realize this is probably just another shit Ohmori trademark that other directors are going to have to keep coming in and rectifying for third versions.

Because lighting is probably baked into a lot of areas of the game. It barely runs, I shudder to think of the frame drops if it had actual lighting in key areas.

Famous reviewers are in it for the money. If you want a reviewer who actually cares you need to find one of those obscure blogs or some shit that reviews Pokemon games. Those people are more likely to take their time with the game.

What happened to optional locations like the dark cave in GSC? Exploration is fucking dead, you're not on a pokemon adventure, you're in a fucking guided tour
Even BW1 which was literally just a fucking hallway from start to finish had this kind of optional places.

Digital Foundry is almost always right, but I experienced a ton of frame drops not reported there. The cutscene in the first town with Leon and the crowd, anytime online was on in the Wild Area + weather, etc.

Eh not sure if the Dark Cave is a good example
It had almost nothing to offer early on other than Dunsparce which is meh.
The caves from which you can capture Lapras or the unown ruins are much better examples of optional exploration imo

People were excited to have a Breath of the Wild experience, and I wasn't. Seeing pokemon of vast varieties roaming around the same area

The one thing I didn't complain about where dungeons in the past games. I knew they were a test to make manage your resources and endurance. What I complained about where the times they made you walk into a cave to get to the other side and used HM road blocks to prevent you from moving forward...all the while getting swarmed every 3 steps.

What's the one thing people complained about in Breath of the Wild? No dungeons... Not sure why they think people can't handle them anymore. Either that or they don't want to play test dungeons anymore.
