Enjoy your shitty Battle Tower and doing Raids for the 50th+ time. Why does Heart Gold, a $40 DS GAME, have more longevity and more content than a fucking $60 Switch game?

I put 500+ hours into most of the DS games by virtue of how much there was to do. Just trying to beat all the battle facility modes alone is a great postgame.

Back during Gen 4-5, I’ve logged hundreds of hours into those games. In S/M, I’ve logged a max of 70 hours into the game. SwSh is going to be even less.

The DS games still had more content than what SwSh had to offer. Catching legendaries, exploring new postgame areas, more story instead of that pathetic 1 hour postgame story that SwSh has, more fleshed out Battle Facilities. Underground, PWT Tournament, Pokeathalon, etc etc

GameFreak does not do DLC. They're not even interested in preserving a game's longevity these days. They're releasing the games annually by now, they don't WANT you to play the game long term. They want you to buy the next one.

Oh I see what you mean now. I disagree though. Not having as much playtime as other games doesn’t mean the time you spent playing it is automatically shit, it’s still fun during those hours of play. I’m already at about 15 hours and just beat the 4th gym. If it entertains me for at least another 15 (will likely be note than that with raids and battle tower I think) that’s money well spent, in my opinion of course.

That's what Game Freak wants you to think, and that's why everything from XY to present has been designed this way; you buy it day 1, play it for week, and then you either play competitive or you drop it. You buy the game again next year, rinse and repeat.

It doesn't. The Battle Frontier gimmicks get old fast and if you've done one gym leader rematch you've done them all. And Pokeathelon is not much more than a few Newgrounds-tier minigames wrapped in a Pokemon aesthetic.

High schoolers have a lot of time. An hour or two a day for a couple years is all it takes.

The only Kanto I've seen is Leo's Charizard, the free gift of Pikachu/Eevee from LGPE (entirely optional and a bonus) and seeing a gyarados in the wild area lake (and catching a magikarp)

Why not just do regular competitive battling at that point? You'd get the same sense of accomplishment, but greater because you didn't need to deal with obnoxious gimmicks to win against a brain-dead AI.

RSE didn't have much of an online comp series, for obvious reasons.

I was also very active in comp in gen 4 but there are times you just don't want the mindgames and pressure of online gaming.

I know that, I was saying that in regards to a hypothetical Battle Frontier added nowadays. Back then it might have passed, but on the other hand as a kid I had only a vague idea of what IVs and EVs were, let alone how to manipulate them. And the less said about the Battle Palace and its AI-roulette horseshit the better.
