So why was everyone clamoring for remakes of these again? I feel like these and their remakes are some of the more weaker entries.

Frontier mainly. XY made making competitive Pokemon a shit ton easier so people hoped it'd be a great time having access to the Frontier again with them.

Great region for exploring even if too much water, lots of content in Emerald, and yeah people wanted to play them but with physical/special split.

GF just decided to ruin them and didn't put even a fraction of the love in that they give HGSS. Just cut out the Battle Frontier, one of the big additions of gen 3, cause kids have too much ADHD from phones.

The way HGSS ended up being a fluke for how much content it had and not the new norm disgusts me so much.

Pokemon is one of the few series I've played where "the new game is almost always better than the last" doesn't hold true.

lol this was my exact reasoning. I was planning on getting a living dex in ORAS and really having a lot of fun with the Battle Frontier. I still got the living dex, but it was just the shitty Battle Maison. I liked the game overall, as usual, but it was missing the one thing I really wanted, as usual.
