I haven't been to this board in years.
I didn't want to come back, but here I am. I think this the only place that I could express how I feel.
I've been a fan of pokemon since gen 1. I've loved every Pokemon game since then, I've been a fan of gamefreak's craft, given that I dabble in game making a little myself. Long story short, I was excited for gen 8, yeah it wasn't as detailed as games like Super Mario Odyssey or Doom, and I was willing to forgive that. Then the news at E3 happened...my heart sank. I knew one day that GameFreak would have to make this decision, but they lied about why they did it. I tried to stay positive before the hard evidence came, I mean, I was still excited about the new pokemon and the dynamax feature, the game could have used a bit of work on some areas on the graphics, but everything else took my breath away.
Then the leaks came. I was skeptical, but then after release, they turned out to be true to a degree, I saw the game ran better when played on the switch rather than a emulator, hell, even a emulator or hacked game to make it preform badly. I even liked the new pokemon designs and battle animations.
But then the evidence came that GameFreak didn't make the models of returning pokemon from scratch, I knew texture and lighting work needed to be done, but then I saw the full roster.
400 or so pokemon. I could have forgiven this if legendaries and starters weren't removed. I understood game balancing here and there, but why not allow special rulesets to allow and not allow them in certain battles like gen 7 did?
Why out of all pokemon, the most iconic and unforgettable pokemon they cut rather than adding them all in? I understand getting rid of megas and z-moves for the dynamax feature, but I realized that it could bring those features back in all one little package. And for the first time I didn't buy a new pokemon game in a gen, I got a refund. And it was a shame too, I really wanted to play it, but I couldn't forgive this.
