I can discard it and ignore its existence if so
I honestly don't know because this is only my second Gen 4 run after doing Diamond a couple of years back and I've never actually trained a Rotom before

Ah, that's fair. Wouldn't use the forms anyway because of the rules of this run. Usually don't go for static encounters in my runs either, but since Rotom isn't super strong, I figured it would be fine to fill that locked electric slot until I can get a magnemite/ton/something else electrical

So you can only catch one pokemon per route? The first time you get there? What if I don't go into grass? Can I go back and catch one then?

I am doing this with Sun since I didn't play much of it and started a new save. I rarely know the routes.

Yes

Also yes. Not forced to capture anything on a first run. But if you get trapped in an encounter against your will, either capture it anyway or lose the route

Usage of repels to "manipulate" encounters is usually considered shitty and cheaty tho

Basically. I'm an autist so i keep a notebook with routes, but thats because im used with the old games. The new games show where you captured a pokemon so if you get two and are in doubt you can always check.
Yes, if your party is full pokemon go to the box, your pokemon die you get replacements from the box.

Doing my first real nuzlocke and this my team just getting to goldenrod. The zubats shiny and not gonna lie to team is solid and I'm pleasantly surprised. Lost my gastly to my rival before the forest and that hurt but slowpoke I think will fit in well. Plus I've got an intimidate ekans on backup (it's naughty too). The luck is good and I'm nervous but having a blast

Anyways, just finished my first leg of Romhack Generations (Attempt #2). Fire Red Omega wasn't that hard, like usual, but did run into a trouble spot this time around with Koga's Crobat :( Really sad about Jumpluff and Lunatone, they were fun mons.

Anyways just starting to prep for my second leg, getting a code ready to encounter and catch my survivors and gotta roll for their survivor benefits.

All prepped for leg 2. Got some good survivor bonus rolls [3 nature picks, an ability change, a 3-flawless-iv roll, and an eggmove for Chiko that I haven't decided on yet]. Will probs grind these smol lads up in the morning.

Falkner shouldn't be an issue, at least. Actually, I think early game is gonna be p easy thanks to Lapras, but we'll see how it goes.

First attempt I made it all the way to Photonic Sun. Unfortunately, I lost 5 out of 6 of my team members to a random trainer on my way to the Ghost trial and kinda just... gave up. Mostly due to having, in my opinion, literally nothing to take on mimikyu with [my plan was Sashed Haze Cofagrigus, but it died to the trainer], and because my [imo only] win-con for Ultra Necrozma [which is lvl 100, ev trained, and calls in a naganadel to 2v1 you with btw] died. Unfortunately I deleted the save file, and looking back, I'm rather upset with myself that I didn't at least try to continue.. so I'm starting all over again.

Honestly though, if I could find ANY other gen 7 romhack similar to Drayano's style, I'd do that instead.. unfort the only other one I can find is Supernova Sun and it somehow manages to be even MORE bullshit, so..

this is why i stopped playing most romhacks and just put harder limitations on myself. hackers gone insane these last gens with what they perceive to be "challenging"

Beat VC Blue the other day.

Venomoth is absolute ass in Blue, takes forever to get the good moves. I'd say Butterfree is honestly better besides having to burn the Psychic TM. But even then Venomoth doesn't get Psychic until level 50. However, Blue is peak Persian. Pay Day gives you loads of cash, you get a pretty decent movepool (that I barely took advantage of but still) and a high crit rate.

For all the attention Meowth is getting lately, it'll never get as good as gen 1 Persian again.

Got a fresh new Hard drive after the old one finally died, can finally update on the wrasslin' nuzlocke.
Things have been going exceedingly well so far in this run, no deaths so far besides ol' Valiant in the beginning. We proved ourselves at Proving Grounds, Rocked at Slam Session, Squashed at Art of War, Electrified at Passion for Bashin', and commandeered the matches at Underpound Railroad.

The next PPV awaits, but first we need to prepare for the gauntlet that is Chargestone Cave.

one clause i play with it the duplicates clause: if the first encounter is a pokémon you’ve encountered previously, you’re allowed to skip it and catch the first encounter that isn’t a duplicate pokémon.

Did it die right before the E4? I've had that happen to me 4 times. Two of them were Primarina as well, one on the last Hau battle in Sun to a crit, one to the asshole double battle right at the end of Mount Lanakila in Ultra Moon. To Hail damage. I've never lost a starter to the E4 themselves, though.

This is why I stopped using a guaranteed dupes clause rule. I now give myself three shots at a non-dupe, and the third is whatever I get even if it is a dupe. It became too easy to manipulate.

SWSH seems to have a load of rules lawyering. Both with random encounters, then overworld, then the Wild Area split to deal with. Wild Area has like 15 or so potential catches if you go by each area, but I don't really know how it pans out ingame since I haven't played it myself. Half the shit would be locked out completely if you fully ignored overworld encounters, then the weather screws you over as well by the sounds of it.

its separated in nine (iirc) different areas. its easy to get an idea of what pokemon are "strong" (theyre bigger and fully evolved) so you go after them at your own risk. i pick one pokemon when i first get there and then wait till every new gym badge to increase caps and capture another one more in another area.

BigGuy4You here, I haven't made much nuzlocke progress since I lost my Sacred Gold run in July. I started over on Friday and am HEAVY GRINDING before each gym so I don't get cheated by Drayano's retarded team design choices.
I really don't think these games are made to be nuzlocke'd, so many times the only solution is to train up an entirely new team of Pokemon to beat a gym or overlevel like crazy to avoid a wipe. I much prefer using the Universal Randomizer to increase levels by 15% or so for added difficulty. Here is my team right before Morty, Raticate is shiny btw

Sacred Gold just kept kicking my ass my first runthrough, Pryce in particular wiped my team because I couldn't handle the Hail Team and his Mamoswine well enough. I like the diversity and availability of the pokemon that his hacks offer, but the gym battles make not losing a team member extremely daunting. Oh hey, the general is back up!

I was the HG guy with the Feraligator and Crobat. Took a break from HG for a bit because I lost my Rapidash with the fight against Koga and my Luxray from a CRITICAL EXPLOSION. Started up a White Nuzlocke, took about 4 attempts to do.

I had finished my fourth White attempt on the day Sword and Shield came out, this is my team after beating the Elite Four, and before Team Plasma.

I won the Nuzlocke, but lost Zimzi, my Lilligant, Krokodile, and Zekrom in the process.

Also, can I get some feedback on a clause I was thinking of for future Nuzlockes? I did test run it during my few prior attempts in HeartGold. Here’s the clause.

If you play a minimum of at least 2 and half hours in a Pokémon game, you can reset your game manually to undo your mistakes, which includes a Pokémon death. However, depending on how far you last saved, you need to redo everything, and once that is done, Nuzlocke rules still apply. If you reset the game to save a Pokémon and it still dies, it counts as a death. If a different Pokémon dies that wasn’t the one you saved, it still counts. This rule can not be used for the Champion/final battles. Thinking about applying that to the Elite Four too.

When I tried it on HG, I still wiped at Morty’s gym, along with other different points of the game, earliest being the second gym.

Love the White team, how was Unfezant I never have used it despite it being the 'starter bird'. As for variants I LOVE Wedlockes as they ramped the difficulty by limiting switching and doubling the punishment of a team death. Randomizer is also fun. I'll admit I don't really like your idea because it sounds tedious to replay the same areas and saving team members that died is a rules stretch.

She has Super Luck and had her since before the second gym, Unfezant was pretty fast to go take out some Pokémon I felt certain party members couldn’t take out safely. I didn’t use almost for the entirety of the Elite Four, with the exception of the last member, Shauntal. She fought the Cofagrigus, and then use her for a switch in when Pokémon were going use ghost attacks to heal up my team.

And the repetition is the point of the rule, so you have to think twice before actually doing it. The rules stretch, I will agee with, and I’m trying to make it not fair than broken. I was thinking that in the event you caught a Pokémon, and if you reset to where you haven’t caught that Pokémon yet, you have to give up that route. I’ll admit that in the pass before posting here, I had a habit of resetting when things go horribly wrong before, and that was developed to curb that habit.

HG and White were the first ones so far that the constant resetting hasn’t happened at all, especially when moment for White, when I lost a long time party member, my Darmanitan at the last Gym Battle, and my Yamask just two levels before evolving. The temptation is still there though.

Except for the fact you can't get Huge Power in the main game, so it's shit. Linoone is probably the best otherwise. Pickup is insane, gets early Headbutt, is actually pretty fast, and can learn Belly Drum which is suicidal but can work lategame.

Bibarel is pretty decent too. Raticate and Furret are alright, I've never used Alolan Raticate though. Watchog is actually pretty decent early on, way better than Liepard. Watchog is just outclassed by Stoutland if you managed to get both Lillipup and Patrat, and falls off hard lategame.

Gumshoos is pretty bad since it's slow, frail, and has a terrible level up movepool. However, if you have Strong Jaw it's a pretty good Ghost killer during the third island. The worst thing is that Alola is absolutely brutal so it just makes Gumshoos seem that much worse.

Okay, so I'm starting my Shield Nuzlocke now.
A few specific rules for this run:
A. I want to try out the new mons in this run to a degree, so ending up with all old mons would be really boring.
Thus, I'll allow the first Galar mon I encounter on each route a possibility of being caught, even if I have already caught another mon.However, no second mon if the first was a Galar mon! Also, three attempts is the maximum(so the first encounter+2 more attempts)- if no galar mon shows up by then, I get no Galar mon for the route.
B. I will, whenever possible, try to make an encounter with a mon that's hidden in the grass(random encounter) my first on each route. However, if I get pounced by one of the overworld mons before I can get to one, I will catch the overworld mon instead.
C. I don't know if the different areas in the Wild Area is listed as such in the pokemon's status screen, but I will treat them as separate routes.
Other than this, I'll play by my usual rules.

I'm playing through Shield for the first time and just catching the first poke I fight against along with regular nuzlocke rules, basically only using the overworld for this playthrough and then using the grass random encounters for the next.
As you can see I suck dick at this. Just defeated the last gym and caught Frosty on route 10. Lost my starter to the first gym dynamax somehow, lost 4 to the 5th gym and y'know the battle cafe when you first arrive at the town where the last gym is held? Fucking cafe pokes were 12 levels above my party and so I lost 4 there.

If you lose a member and need to lvl up some shitter that's a bunch of levels lower, go do some of the raid battles in the wild area, defeating them gives you rare candies/xp stuff you can use to level and raid battles don't give any xp unless you catch the poke so you won't over level doing this. Helps a lot considering you can't turn xp share off so this way the rest of your pokes wont over level like crazy

After going through gen I and II in autismlockes for some times i say, there are a few mons you can call "carriers" in gen I which you take a bunch of shitmon with them so they can be champions, and gengar is one of them. So if youre not confident on your team, pick one of the bugs and rattata and go to town with it, just so you can cross them from future encounters forever

Free use of items is way too easy and would let you cheese the game.

Tbh I agree with >>41258115 personally. Switch mode feels like cheating to me, and makes the game a lot easier. I did my last Romhack Gens run entirely in switch mode and it felt really cheap. Going set mode this run [which I normally do] and enjoying the added difficulty it gives, although the exp distribution annoys me sometimes.

I underestimated the wild area, which lost me two mons. Instead I just want to let other people who are interested in Nuzlocking these games a good way on how to deal with the wild area. There's 17 area within the wild area itself (not gonna lie, when I started typing this up I was under the assumption there was 18, but upon double checking it seems I was wrong), now you can be a little bitch and allow yourself to just capture anything and everything the moment you get access to this place but that doesn't seem in the spirit of nuzlockes, which is very much about placing limits on yourself and so because of that here's what I propose as being the best way to handle this place.
You can capture something from 2 of the zones for every gym badge you acquire, 2 times by 8 is obviously 16, so that 1 remaining capture you have can be used when you FIRST get to the wild area and don't have any badges, so you can count it as if you had just arrived to the route basically.
This is IMO the superior and flatout best way to deal with the Wild Area. It keeps you limited rather than just allowing you to go crazy and have an absurd amount of pokemon to choose from which goes against the spirit of nuzlocking in general and it gives you an incentive to keep visiting the wild area.
You could, if you wanted, decide to limit yourself further by allowing yourself to only be able to visit the areas you're allowed to capture. So like if you've only just arrived at the wild area you can make it so you can only make use of the resources available at the Rolling Fields part of the wild area. That's obviously just a small bonus limitation if you so want to do that. I didn't because I've only just thought of that shit now, but there are some decently strong TMs and TRs available in the wild area and using them could diminish the challenge of the game significantly and IMO the game ain't that hard as it is. It's definitely no USUM.

Not planning on doing a Nuzlocke but don't want to make a thread just for this and it seems like it's an okay spot to ask.
I played Silver then all the Gen 3 games as a kid, and beat Diamond but didn't touch post-game or any other Gen 4 or later games.
I'm planning on playing through the games via emulator normally, and I know there was the function to trade pokemon from your GBA cartridges to you DS one in Diamond. This intrigues me, and so does the idea of actually trying to complete the pokedex. I know that the more recent games (sans the most recent) have all the older pokemon in them as well, at least in the post-game. Is it feasible to transfer up the earlier gens to the later ones to keep the pokedex filled? Are there any neat hacks to allow me to catch or otherwise obtain event exclusive pokemon, or otherwise fill out the dex without trading from partner games? I'm guessing through alternating games carefully I'd be able to catch say the ones that aren't in FireRed while playing Diamond or something. Alternatively, do any emulators have online communities where I can use the trade thing that was in Diamond to fill the dex out?
And, finally (and sorry for all the questions), is there any reason to not play the gens in order preferring remakes when possible?
TL;DR: Want to emulate mainline pokemon games and fill out the dex, bringing pokemon along with me, looking for advice to make sure I don't fuck up the order or miss event/special mons.
I guess, in the spirit of the general, are the games easy enough that as an adult it's worth playing Nuzlocke and just boxing fainted mons and catching other ones and not using them until I beat the game, then swapping to finishing out the dex/playing normally after becoming champion?

If you're going to use emulators just use pkhex to give you event mon/event items.I don't think theres an "online trading community for emulators" exactly because it exists. Just add the pokemon yourself or use a gameshark/cheat code to make it appear on grass.
And yes the games are easy enough to do nuzlocke instead to spice it up. I frankly cannot find enjoyment into playing pokemon normally and walking over everything anymore, but ymmv

You can edit the rom before playing with dabomstew's randomizer (its easier than it sounds, just clicking an option) and remove trave evos. If anything you can use pkhex on your save file when your haunter reaches a level you would want to evolve it to gengar anyway

Just got to the town of the 4th gym. 4 out of the 5 dead Pokémon were lost to crits. Silicobra and Dracovish are from the same route, but I didn't think the fossil stuff would be this early and I just couldn't not use that hideous thing. I'll probably release Silicobra to make up for it.

Finally got the 8th badge, almost lost Daffodil and Poppy if it wasn't for Rose's Light Screen and Yawn, it was a pretty stressing battle so far.

I have one space in my team and I barely remember what I'm able to catch before Elite 4, hopefully my encounters are good, I have a few options boxed just in case.

This isn't working as well as I'd like. The "box" around a Pokémon's info is still that default grey color. The moves always jut out past the boundaries of the curved container, as well. How do I get rid of that box, and fix the issue of the moves fitting into their containers?

See what I mean here. I'm functionally illiterate with coding, I have to tinker with "Inspect Element" to do what I can. (I can ooga booga some basic HTML/CSS but everything I learned about Java in 10th grade has gone out the other ear. I'm definitely more suited to assembling a device than telling it how to behave.)

I had a similar issue. The way I solved it was by adding this line:

.pokemon-info {
background-color:transparent !important;
}

Basically it makes the solid-color stuff you're having trouble with go transparent. .

Not sure if that helps at all, or about the rest of your issues, desu :( I don't really know how to code either, just kinda figuring shit out as I go via inspect tool.

I found a different workaround: adding 2 extra letters/numbers to the back of the hex code in "accent color" in the side panel gives you the transparency you want. E.G. "#00000055" gives you a 55% opaque black pokemon.info class.

What I need now is to be able to adjust the color of the font of shit like "Dead", "Boxed", and "Rules" on a permanent basis from the CSS.

Dunno if the settings in the style tab make much of a difference. And not sure why, but it wasn't working without the !important line fsr.

Also, transparent [all lowercase] does work in the accent box on the editor itself. I just opted for this instead because doing that makes ALL instances of that accent color [box mons, dead mons, etc.] transparent, where as I just wanted the team portion of it gone.

Either works though, depending what you need it for.

There's only 2 new Pokemon that Tauros unlocks in SM on Route 1, as opposed to 4 in USUM. So maybe not count it for SM but Pinwheel it in USUM.
